Jacob made a vow to God when He had nothing and He was blessed by God (Gen 28:10-22). He was traveling from Beersheba to Haran when he decided to stop for the night. As he lay down, he had a dream where He saw God saying that He will give him and his descendants the land on which he was lying. Jacob made a vow that God will be his Lord if He stays with him throughout his journey. He honoured his vow. You must also honour your vows. If you promised God that you will give something if He blesses you with a job, you must honour the vow when blessed with the job.
Cornelius was blessed for giving generously to those in need (Acts 10:1-8). The angel of God appeared to him and told him that his prayers and gifts to the poor had reached God. However, Cornelius was not born again even though he was doing all the good deeds. The angel instructed him to look for Peter so that he can preach to him. We should not get tired of giving because, in the appointed time, God will reward us. We should also give our lives to Christ.
Do not feel ashamed for whatever little you give (Deut 17:18). The Lord will bless you for whatever you give. When you give back a portion of what God has blessed you with you succeed. He will provide for you because He is the provider (2 Cor 8:9). However, you should not worship money. Remember that love for money is the root of all evil. Do not allow money to come between you and God. Always find time for church and engage in all activities in the church. Money does not solve all problems, you still need God as well as other people. Therefore, do not be blinded by money.
You know you worship money when you do not give. When you start complaining about giving and sticking with what God has blessed you with. However, when you give you should do it willingly, with a clear conscience. Everything belongs to God, so when you give you're stretching your hand so that He can bless you with more. Nobody gets poor for giving. Also, remember that salvation is personal. Give your life to God so that even when you give materially, you can have confidence in your salvation.
