Waiting upon God in purity

The current generation is so into testing and confirmation that when they see a place labeled, 'Wet Paint! Do Not Touch!' they will go ahead and touch it to see if it's really wet!

This generation has failed to wait upon God in purity. This is the generation of confirmation. There are many cliches out there intended to make those who're waiting upon God in purity to shift. "Testing the engine before buying the car," they say; You are not the manufacturer! Do not test. The other cliche is that 'everyone is doing it'. Stand firm, do not do things because others are doing them. Godly things have a way in which they should occur, therefore wait upon God. Do not follow others into sin.

Cutting shortcuts in life is another thing making young people impure. People want to be rich without working for it, people want instant money, no waiting! young people want instant wives, among other things. There are no shortcuts, there's nothing instant. Do not give up your purity for the sake of instant solutions and shortcuts. Stand firm in the Lord, and when the time comes the Lord will reward you. Your strength shall be renewed.

Two Issues on Purity

  1. The purity of the mind.
  2. Sexual Purity

The purity of the mind

Mind: the element of the body that reasons, feels, and judges.

Paul says in Romans 12:1 that we present our bodies as a living sacrifice. As humans we walk in the flesh (2 Cor 10:3-5) and see things then our imaginations get into the mind and corrupts it, leading us into sin. Jesus said that even [a man] looking at a woman [who is not your wife, covetiously] is a sin since it is registered in your mind. Do not conform to the patterns of this world, instead be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). This leads us to two types of mindsets;

i. A renewed/transformed mindset.

ii. A conformed mindset.

To transform is to change while to renew is to change after an interruption. To conform is to follow/comply with. Christians of a conformed mindset have the following Characteristics;

  • Follows the patterns of this world.
  • Says, "everyone is doing it".
  • Compromises.
  • Sees things in the world then implements them without question.
  • Embraces what is popular among people.

Sees and feels no guilt; Can watch a video showing people doing ungodly things and continue watching saying how such people will go to hell, instead of quitting immediately. 

A transformed mindset, on the other hand;

  • Seeks to please God.
  • Asks for God's will and waits upon His time.
  • Asks God for forgiveness.
  • Questions before implementing; asks God, 'Can I do it?'
  • Asks God, 'is it well with my life?'
  • Wants to live closer to God.
  • Says, "God is in control".

What mindset do you have? Develop the right mindset. When you get in sin do not stay there, move on. Do not give excuses like, it was an accident; there is no accident in something like sex unless it is rape. Keep in mind that;

- if you sow a word; you reap a thought,

- if you sow a thought; you reap a desire,

-if you sow a desire; you reap an act,

-if you sow an act; you reap a habit,

-if you sow a habit; you reap a character,

-if you sow a character; you reap a destiny.

Therefore, fill your mind with that which is right. Only think of positive things. Remember that you can't fill a car engine with rocket fuel and expect it to move. So, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. " (Philippians 4:8 (NIV)).
